THE INSTITUTE IS A STATE TRAINING AGENCY OFFERING A SERIES OF PROTOTYPE TRAINING PROGRAMS IN 'HANDS ON' PLANNING THEORY, METHODOLOGIES, AND TECHNIQUES FOR STATE, LOCAL, AND REGIONAL CRIMINAL JUSTICE PLANNERS.
Abstract
AREAS OF TRAINING INCLUDE CRIME MEASUREMENT AND CRIME STATISTICS ANALYSIS, CRIME FORECASTING TECHNIQUES, TREND ANALYSIS FOR CRIME REDUCTION, PREVENTION, AND CONTROL AND FOR PROJECT DEVELOPMENT, AND EVALUATION TECHNIQUES. THIS REPORT CONTAINS PARTICIPANT AND EVALUATOR REACTIONS TO TWO CJPI TRAINING PROGRAMS PRESENTED DURING APRIL AND JUNE OF 1974 IN LEAA REGION IX (LA JOLLA, CALFIRONIA), AND A ONE-WEEK PROGRAM CONDUCTED FROM MARCH 2 THROUGH MARCH 8, 1975 IN REGION X (SEATTLE, WASHINGTON). ALSO INCLUDED ARE THE RESULTS OF IMPACT STUDIES CONDUCTED SEVERAL MONTHS AFTER COMPLETION OF CJPI TRAINING IN REGION IX AND REGION X. ONLY SUMMARY DATA ARE PROVIDED IN THOSE CASES WHERE COMPLETE DATA WERE PREVIOUSLY REPORTED. THE INSTITUTE RECEIVED AN OVERALL FAVORABLE RATING, ALTHOUGH A LACK OF RELEVANCE BETWEEN TRAINING MATERIAL AND PARTICIPANT JOB RESPONSIBILITIES WAS CITED. RECOMMENDATIONS INCLUDED A DE-EMPHASIS OF GRANTS ADMINISTRATION IN FAVOR OF MORE CONCERN FOR THE STRATEGIC PLANNING PROCESS, CONJOINT TRAINING FOR ALL PROFESSIONAL STAFF MEMBERS OF THE PLANNING AGENCY, REDEFINITION OF LEARNING OBJECTIVES IN MEASURABLE JOBIMPACT TERMS, AND THE DEVELOPMENT AND INVESTIGATION OF ALTERNATE STRATEGIES AND METHODOLOGIES FOR TRANSFERRING THE PROGRAM TO OTHER INTERESTED STATES.
