THE AUTHOR ARGUES THAT SOCIETY HAS NEGLECTED THE MORAL ASPECTS OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE AND CONTENDS THAT A CRIMINAL JUSTICE PHILOSOPHY BASED ON A CONSIDERATION OF MORALITY, RIGHTS, AND RESPONSIBILITIES MUST BE DEVELOPED.
Abstract
IT IS STATED THAT CONSIDERATION OF THE PLACE OF MORALITY IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE COULD LEAD TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF GUIDES FOR ITS USE IN REHABILITATION. THE AUTHOR CONSIDERS THE RELATIONSHIP OF MORALITY AND THE CRIMINAL LAW FOR FOUR AREAS: DETERMINING THE AIMS AND PURPOSE OF THE CRIMINAL LAW; DETERMINING WHAT ACTIONS SHOULD BE DEFINED AS CRIME; THE APPLICATION OF THE LAW; AND PERSONAL RESPONSES TO THE DEMANDS OF THE CRIMINAL LAW. AS A FIRST STEP IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF SUCH A MORAL CODE. THE AUTHOR SUGGESTS THE DEVELOPMENT OF A CITIZENS' CODE OF RESPONSIBILITY IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE OR THE DEVELOPMENT OF A CODE OF ETHICS FOR THE MEDIA.
