A SUMMARY OF A CONFERENCE UNDERTAKEN TO EVALUATE THE CALIFORNIA DRUG DIVERSION LAW, DISCUSS THE EFFECTS OF THE LAW, AND PROPOSE RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE LEGISLATURE FOR REVISING THIS SECTION OF THE CALIFORNIA PENAL CODE.
Abstract
THIS REPORT INCLUDES THE TEXT OF THE DRUG DIVERSION LAW, A LIST OF CONFERENCE PARTICIPANTS, AN OUTLINE OF THE CONFERENCE PROGRAM, AND SUMMARIES OF THE CONFERENCE PRESENTATIONS. IN THE PRESENTATIONS, THE EFFECTS OF THE LAW ON THE PROSECUTION, DEFENSE, AND THE COURT WERE DISCUSSED; RECOMMENDED REFORMS OF THE LAW WERE REVIEWED; AND SEVERAL DRUG TREATMENT PROGRAMS WERE DESCRIBED. SUMMARIES OF THE SMALL GROUP DISCUSSIONS HELD ON SUCH TOPICS AS ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA, CONFIDENTIALITY, DIVERSION SUPERVISION, REVOCATION OF DIVERSION, AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE RESOURCES ARE ALSO PRESENTED.
