THE RESULTS OF THE ADMINISTRATION OF A VOCATIONAL PREFERENCE INSTRUMENT TO A GROUP OF 133 ADULT, MALE INMATES REVEAL THAT INMATES ARE LIKELY TO HAVE UNREALISTIC IMPRESSIONS OF THEIR VOCATIONAL ABILITIES.
Abstract
FURTHERMORE, THEY ARE LIKELY TO HAVE POTENTIAL IN THE CLERICAL AREA ALTHOUGH THEY EXPRESS MORE INTEREST IN UNCONVENTIONAL THAN CONVENTIONAL OCCUPATIONAL AREAS. THE RESULTS ALSO SUGGEST THAT ONE GOAL OF VOCATIONAL COUNSELING MAY BE TO ASSIST PRISONERS IN A MORE REALISTIC APPRAISAL OF THEIR ABILITIES.
