A DESCRIPTION OF INMATE AND EX-OFFENDER GROUPS THAT WERE FORMED IN THE CHICAGO AREA BY INMATES AND RELEASED PRISONERS DURING THE PERIOD FROM 1968 TO 1973.
Abstract
THE NAMES OF INDIVIDUALS AND GROUPS IN THIS REPORT HAVE BEEN WITHHELD IN THE INTEREST OF CONFIDENTIALITY. THE NATIONAL HISTORY OF GROUPS SUCH AS THE SEVENTH STEP AND THE FORTUNE SOCIETY AND THE LOCAL HISTORIES OF THE CHICAGO-AREA GROUPS ARE SKETCHED OUT. THE ORGANIZATIONAL ELEMENTS OF THE GROUPS - GOALS, MEMBERSHIP, STRUCTURE, PROGRAMS, LEADERSHIP, AND FUND-RAISING - ARE DISCUSSED IN THE BODY OF THE REPORT. THE RESEARCHERS FEEL THAT THE ORGANIZATION AND PROLIFERATION OF PRISONER AND EX-OFFENDER GROUPS IS THE GENESIS OF A NEW SOCIAL MOVEMENT.
