A NUMBER OF CORRECTIONAL ARCHITECTURE INFORMATION DISSEMINATION AND PROGRAM ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN PROJECTS ARE BRIEFLY DESCRIBED.
Abstract
IN ORDER TO FREE CORRECTIONAL ARCHITECTS FROM THE BURDEN OF 'RE-INVENTING THE WHEEL' EACH TIME THEY DESIGN PRISONS OR PARTS OF PRISONS, IT IS PROPOSED THAT SEVERAL INFORMATION DISSEMINATION PROJECTS BE UNDERTAKEN TO PRESERVE AND ADVANCE THE STATE OF THE ART. THESE PROJECTS INCLUDE AN INFORMATION CLEARINGHOUSE, A MONOGRAPH SERIES ON CHANGE PROGRAMS, PRISON IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS, RESEARCH CORRECTIONAL FACILITES, AND CONSUMER TESTING (WITH THE HELP OF INMATES). STUDIES ARE SUGGESTED WHICH WILL PROVIDE USEFUL INFORMATION ABOUT THE EFFECTS OF CORRECTIONAL ENVIRONMENTS AND HOW THESE ENVIRONMENTS CAN BE IMPROVED. THEY INVOLVE TOPICS SUCH AS THE PATHOLOGY OF CROWDING, SPACE STANDARDS, MAIL POLICIES, CONJUGAL VISITS, TELEVISION USE IN PRISON, AND TWELVE OTHERS. SEE ALSO NCJ-31712.
