AN EXPLANATION OF THE PSYCHOLOGICAL SCALES USED IN A PROJECT TO DEVELOP IMPROVED METHODOLOGIES FOR OBTAINING DATA ON CRIME VICTIMS AND OFFENDERS, AND FOR VERIFYING THE VALIDITY OF THAT DATA.
Abstract
FOUR SCALES - A BEHAVIORAL CHECKLIST, RESENTFULNESS, ALONENESS, AND VERACITY - WERE EMPLOYED. THESE SCALES WERE INCLUDED IN QUESTIONNAIRES ADMINISTERED TO ARRESTEES AND TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC. DATA ANALYSIS WAS THEN USED TO CORRELATE MEASURES OF THESE SCALES WITH THE COMMISSION OF VARIOUS CRIMINAL ACTS AND WITH THE LIKELIHOOD OF THE RESPONDENT'S ADMISSION OF CRIMINAL ACTIVITY. SUBSTANTIVE FINDINGS ARE SUMMARIZED IN TABLES. FOR THE SUMMARY STATEMENT AND FINAL REPORT OF THIS PROJECT, SEE NCJ-34296 AND NCJ-34297.
