Abstract
THE NEED FOR COUNSELORS TO RECOGNIZE THEIR OWN STRENGTHS AND LIMITATIONS, THE SPECIAL NEEDS OF THEIR CLIENTS, AND SOCIETY'S PERCEPTIONS OF EX-OFFENDERS IS EMPHASIZED. AFFIRMATIVE APPROACHES TO OVERCOMING BARRIERS IN THE COUNSELING RELATIONSHIP WHICH ARE DESCRIBED INCLUDE SELF-HELP GROUPS, PEER COUNSELING, AND THE USE OF PARAPROFESSIONALS.
