FINDINGS OF A STUDY CONDUCTED TO DETERMINE THE ATTITUDES OF COURT PERSONNEL WORKING IN NEW COURTHOUSES THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY TO DETERMINE THEIR ATTITUDES TOWARD THE PHYSICAL DESIGN OF THE NEW FACILITIES.
Abstract
JUDGES, ATTORNEYS, JURORS, OTHER COURT PERSONNEL, AND MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC WERE INTERVIEWED. THEIR REACTIONS TO THE COURTHOUSES ARE DIVIDED INTO TWO CATEGORIES SYMBOLISM AND AMENITY. GUIDELINES FOR PLANNING NEW COURT FACILITIES FOR THE PEOPLE WHO USE THEM ARE SET FORTH. THE RECOMMENDATION IS MADE TO DEVELOP NEW DESIGN STANDARDS AFTER A SYSTEMATIC EVALUATION OF NEW COURTHOUSES AS A MEANS OF ACCUMULATING DATA ON THE FUNCTIONAL, SYMBOLIC, PHYSIOLOGICAL, AND PSYCHOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF COURT DESIGN USING THE CASE STUDY METHOD.
