Abstract
THE FIRST CHAPTER CONTAINS SELECTED SOCIO-DEMOGRAPHIC COMPARISONS BETWEEN THESE TWO GROUPS, AND THE FOLLOWING SIX CHAPTERS EXAMINE DIFFERENTIAL EVALUATIONS OF THE POLICE IN BRITISH COLUMBIA WITH RESPECT TO ATTITUDES TOWARDS POLICE AUTHORITY; ATTITUDES TOWARDS POLICE FIELD PRACTICES; EXPERIENCES WITH VIOLENCE; ATTITUDES TOWARDS NEIGHBOURHOOD SAFETY AND THE NECESSITY OF POLICE; CYNCISM AND OTHER ATTITUDES TOWARDS HUMAN NATURE; AND PERCEPTIONS OF LIFE SATISFACTION. THE FINAL CHAPTER INCLUDES A BRIEF SUMMARY AND A CONCLUSION ABOUT ATTITUDINAL DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MEMBERS OF THE RCMP AND OF THE PUBLIC. EACH TABLE PROVIDES A COMPARISON FIRST OF THE TOTAL PUBLIC SAMPLE AND THE RCMP SAMPLE, THEN OF MALES IN BOTH SAMPLES BETWEEN 18 AND 30 YEARS OLD, AND FINALLY, OF MALES IN BOTH SAMPLES BETWEEN 31 AND 55 YEARS OLD.
