Abstract
THE SUBCOMMITTEE FOUND THAT, AS A RESULT OF ITS 1970 ACT, PUSHERS AND ABUSERS ALIKE HAVE BEGUN TO CONCENTRATE THEIR ATTENTION ON LEGITIMATE SOURCES OF THESE DRUGS, PARTICULARLY PHARMACIES. TESTIMONY IS PRESENTED ON THE EXTENT AND NATURE OF THEFT OF DRUGS FROM PHARMACIES, MAIL ORDER DIVERSION, AND PRESCRIPTION FRAUD. WITNESSES INCLUDED REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ORGANIZED PHARMACY, SUCH AS THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF RETAIL DRUGGISTS, THE AMERICAN PHARMACEUTICAL ASSOCIATION, AND THE ACADEMY OF GENERAL PRACTICE OF BOARDS AND PHARMACY. APPENDED MATERIALS CONSIST OF NUMEROUS EXHIBITS, ARTICLES, AND STATEMENTS CONCERNING THE CONTROL AND ABUSE OF DANGEROUS DRUGS AT THE RETAIL LEVEL.
