A DESCRIPTION OF A PROGRAM TO DEVELOP AND TEST NUMEROUS DESIGN AND EQUIPMENT CONCEPTS FOR PATROL CARS TO DETERMINE WHICH OFFER SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENTS IN THE SAFETY, ECONOMY, AND PRODUCTIVITY OF THE PATROL FUNCTION.
Abstract
TO DETERMINE THE OPERATIONAL SUITABILITY OF THESE PROPOSED CONCEPTS, TWENTY VEHICLES WILL BE BUILT AND FIELD TESTED FOR A SIX MONTH DURATION BY THE NEW ORLEANS AND DALLAS POLICE DEPARTMENTS. AS A FORERUNNER TO THE PREPARATION OF THE TWENTY FIELD TEST VEHICLES, A PROTOTYPE VEHICLE, IMPLEMENTING MANY OF THE CONCEPTS TO BE TESTED, HAS BEEN DEVELOPED. THE PURPOSE OF THE PROTOTYPE VEHICLE IS TO DEMONSTRATE THE IMPROVED SYSTEMS CAPABILITIES AND TO PROVIDE EARLY IDENTIFICATION AND ELIMINATION OF SYSTEMS DESIGN PROBLEMS PRIOR TO DEVELOPMENT OF THE FIELD TEST VEHICLES. CONCEPTS AND EQUIPMENT INCORPORATED INTO THE PROTOTYPE VEHICLE ARE DESCRIBED HEREIN. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
