REPORT ON A FEASIBILITY INVESTIGATION OF THREE SCHEMES PROPOSED TO ADD A 'TAG' TO COMMERCIAL EXPLOSIVES WHICH WOULD SERVE AS AN AID TO LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES IN TRACING SOURCES OF EXPLOSIVES USED IN CRIMINAL BOMBINGS.
Abstract
TESTS WERE CONDUCTED IN CONTROLLED CONDITIONS AND FIELD SITUATIONS AND A STUDY WAS CONDUCTED OF THE IMPACT OF THE PROPOSED SCHEMES ON THE EXPLOSIVES MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY. PRELIMINARY COST DATA WERE ALSO ESTIMATED. TEST RESULTS INDICATE THAT TAGS THAT WILL SURVIVE DETONATION, ARE RECOVERABLE FROM THE RESULTING DEBRIS, AND CAN BE READILY DECODED TO INDICATE PLANT AND PERIOD OF MANUFACTURE ARE TECHNICALLY FEASIBLE. COSTS OF AN IMPLEMENTABLE SYSTEM ALSO APPEAR TO BE WITHIN AN ACCEPTABLE RANGE. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
