A BRIEF OUTLINE IS PROVIDED OF THE VARIOUS TYPES OF CHILD ABUSE, THE METHODS OF RECOGNIZING NEGLECTED AND ABUSED CHILDREN, AND RECOMMENDED TREATMENT PROCEDURES IN CASES OF ABUSE OR NEGLECT.
Abstract
IN ORDER TO PROMOTE EARLY IDENTIFICATION OF NEGLECT OR ABUSE CASES, THE AUTHOR PROVIDES INFORMATION ON THE FOLLOWING AREAS: COMMON CHARACTERISTICS OF ABUSING PARENTS, COMMON TRAITS OF ABUSED OR NEGLECTED CHILDREN, MEDICAL EVIDENCE THAT MAY INDICATE THE OCCURRENCE OF CHILD ABUSE, AND THE SIGNS OF ABUSE AND NEGLECT IN BATTERED CHILDREN, NEGLECTED CHILDREN, SEXUALLY MOLESTED CHILDREN, AND EMOTIONALLY ABUSED CHILDREN. PROCEDURES FOR TREATING THE ABUSED AND/OR SEXUALLY ASSAULTED CHILD ARE OUTLINED AS WELL. FINALLY, A LIST OF POSSIBLE PROGRAMS FOR THE PREVENTION AND TREATMENT OF CHILD ABUSE IS PROVIDED.
