THIS COURT PERSONNEL TRAINING PROGRAM VIDEOTAPE SHOWS THE PRELIMINARY HEARING IN MUNICIPAL COURT FOR TWO DEFENDANTS CHARGED WITH ROBBERY AND ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON.
Abstract
THIS TAPE IS BASED ON CALIFORNIA LAW AND MAY NOT APPLY TO OTHER STATES. THE DEPUTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY AND THE DEFENSE COUNSEL FOR THE CASE TALK ABOUT THE OVERALL PURPOSE THE PRELIMINARY HEARING SERVES IN THE CRIMINAL PROCESS AND OFFER THEIR VIEWS ON THE SPECIFIC FUNCTION IT SERVES FOR BOTH THE PROSECUTION AND DEFENSE. IN ADDITION TO THE PROCESS AND PURPOSE OF THE PRELIMINARY HEARING, THE PROGRAM FOCUSES ON THE COURTROOM CLERK'S IN-COURT RESPONSIBILITIES FOR HANDLING EXHIBITS, AND LOOKS AT THE SPECIAL POST-COURT DISPOSITION PROCEDURES REQUIRED WHEN THE DEFENDANTS ARE ORDERED TO SUPERIOR COURT FOR TRIAL. FOR THE COMPLETE SET OF THE SKYLINE COLLEGE COURT SUPPORT PERSONNEL PROJECT VIDEOTAPES, SEE NCJ-35823-25, 36202-28, 36230, AND 36231. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
