REPORT ON TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE PROVIDED THE MOUNT PROSPECT POLICE DEPARTMENT, WHICH WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE INAVAILABILITY OF DATA ON CRIMES AND OFFENDERS TO ITS NEWLY FORMED CRIME PREVENTION UNIT.
Abstract
THE DEPARTMENT, WITH A TOTAL STRENGTH OF 59 OFFICERS AND 13 CIVILIANS, SERVES A POPULATION OF 48,000 IN A 12 SQUARE MILE AREA. ON-SITE INSPECTIONS AND INTERVIEWS WERE CONDUCTED, AND THIS REPORT WAS SUBMITTED IN JULY OF 1976. INACCURATE REPORT CLASSIFICATION, INCOMPLETE REPORT REVIEWS, AND INADEQUATE CONTROL OF REPORTS ONCE RECEIVED BY THE RECORDS UNIT WERE OBSERVED. IN ADDITION TO RECOMMENDING IMPROVEMENTS IN THESE AREAS, THE NEED FOR A CRIME ANALYSIS UNIT IS STRESSED.
