Nine essays which comprised a series of public lectures covering, from various viewpoints, a number of topics in the general fields of criminal law, criminal procedure, and criminology.
Abstract
This series of lectures was delivered at the Victoria University of Wellington during the 1971 winter term. Essay topics include criminal liability, limitations of criminal law, the onus of proof in criminal cases, the effect of criminal procedure upon justice, consequences of overextended criminal law, and the role of the police in the administration of justice. Also included are two theses related to the general themes of the lectures, one on vagrancy and the exercise of police discretion, and the other on police powers of arrest.
