THE TWO PROGRAMS DISCUSSED ARE A PARAPROFESSIONAL CIVIL SERVICE CLASSIFICATION SERIES AND AN ON-SITE COLLEGE CRIMINAL JUSTICE EDUCATION PROGRAM.
Abstract
THE PARAPROFESSIONAL SERIES WAS DESIGNED TO BRIDGE THE GAP BETWEEN CLERICALS AND PROFESSIONAL ANALYSTS. THIS THREE-STEP CRIME STUDIES TECHNICIAN (CST) SERIES BEGINS WITH A TRAINEE ENTRY LEVEL FOR CLERKS WITH ONE YEAR OF EXPERIENCE. SIX MONTHS OF SATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE AT THIS LEVEL QUALIFIES A TRAINEE FOR ADVANCEMENT TO THE CST I LEVEL. ONE YEAR OF SATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE AS A CST I IS QUALIFICATION FOR ADVANCEMENT TO CST II. FINALLY, ONE YEAR OF SATISFACTORY PERFORMANCE AT THE TOP CST LEVEL QUALIFIES THE PARAPROFESSIONAL TO COMPETE FOR THE PROFESSIONAL ENTRY LEVEL POSITION, ASSISTANT CRIME STUDIES ANALYST. THE ON-SITE COLLEGE PROGRAM OFFERS A BACHELOR OF ARTS DEGREE IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE. STUDENTS WISHING TO SET A MID-POINT GOAL CAN OBTAIN AN ASSOCIATE OF ARTS DEGREE IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE. THE CLASSES ARE CONDUCTED PARTIALLY ON STATE TIME DURING EIGHT-WEEK SEMESTERS. EMPLOYEES CAN TAKE A MINIMUM OF THREE AND A MAXIMUM OF 30 SEMESTER HOURS EACH YEAR. STUDENTS CAN RECEIVE SEMESTER-HOUR CREDITS BY SUCCESSFULLY PASSING COLLEGE LEVEL EXAMINATION PROGRAM (CLEP) TESTS. THE APPENDIX CONTAINS PROGRAM SPECIFICATIONS, ENTRANCE, REQUIREMENTS, AND TRAINING NEEDS. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
