A POLICE TRAINING DOCUMENT DESCRIBING THE PRESENCE OF DANGER IN POLICE WORK, AND THE POSSIBLE SUBCONSCIOUS EFFECTS OF THE PERCEPTION OF THIS DANGER ON THE OFFICER.
Abstract
A SURVEY INDICATED THAT OFFICERS PERCEIVED RADIO CALLS RELATING TO ASSAULTS, ROBBERIES AND BURGLARIES IN PROGRESS, OFFICERS IN NEED OF ASSISTANCE, MURDERS, AND THE DISCHARGING OF FIREARMS TO BE POTENTIALLY THE MOST DANGEROUS. THE IMPORTANCE OF UNDERSTANDING THE EFFECT OF PERCEIVED DANGER UPON ONE'S JUDGEMENT, BEFORE FORMULATING A RESPONSE, IS STRESSED. FOR A RELATED TRAINING KEY ON CONTROLLING ONE'S REACTIONS TO DANGER, SEE NCJ-35962.
