DISCUSSION OF THE DEVELOPMENT AND OPERATION OF THE SOCIAL CATALYST PROGRAM AT THE CALIFORNIA TRAINING FACILITY (SOLEDAD).
Abstract
DESIGNED TO REDUCE THE LEVEL OF INSTITUTIONAL VIOLENCE, THIS PROGRAM ENCOURAGED THE DEVELOPMENT OF A CADRE OF INMATE LEADERS WHO COULD BE COUNTED ON TO MAINTAIN LINES OF COMMUNICATION AND TO WORK WITH THE STAFF TO STOP STABBINGS AND OTHER FORMS OF VIOLENCE. THE ROLE OF LINE PERSONNEL IN THE SUCCESSFUL OPERATION OF THIS PROGRAM IS ALSO EXAMINED.
