AN ANALYSIS OF FACTORS RELEVANT TO EFFECTIVE TIME MANAGEMENT, DRAWING UPON THE EXPERIENCES OF BOTH PUBLIC AND PRIVATE ORGANIZATIONS, WITH SUGGESTIONS FOR APPLICATIONS IN CORRECTIONAL MANAGEMENT.
Abstract
SELF-ORGANIZATION IS STRESSED AS AN IMPORTANT MEANS FOR SETTING PRIORITIES AND TIME VALUES FOR ACTIVITIES, AND WORKING ACCORDING TO A UNIFIED PLAN. PSYCHOLOGICAL FACTORS CONSIDERED INCLUDE THE USE OF WRITTEN GOALS AND SCHEDULES, WHICH ARE SAID TO BE MORE APT TO BE FOLLOWED. OPERATING SKILLS ARE ALSO STRESSED, AND SPECIAL CONDITIONS- SUCH AS EFFECTIVE USE OF TIME ON THE ROAD OR AT HOME - ARE ALSO SAID TO BE RELEVANT. THESE FOUR PERSPECTIVES ARE INTERWOVEN INTO A THREE-PRONGED MODEL, WHICH FOCUSES FIRST ON THE PLANNING FUNCTION OF ADMINISTRATION, THEN ON THE IMPLEMENTATION PHASE, AND FINALLY ON EVALUATING THE WORK DONE AND SIMULTANEOUSLY PREPARING FOR A RETURN TO PLANNING. APPENDICES ARE INCLUDED WHICH DEAL WITH PROGRAM EVALUATION REVIEW TECHNIQUE AND ITS COUNTERPART, CRITICAL PATH METHOD, AND MANAGEMENT BY OBJECTIVES. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
