Abstract
THE PURPOSE OF THE MEASURE IS TO AVOID THE EFFECTS OF DETENTION WHILE STILL PROVIDING FOR THE PROTECTION OF SOCIETY. EXAMINED ARE THE USES TO WHICH FRENCH JUDGES HAVE PUT THE MEASURE, THE TYPE OF PERSON TO WHOM IT HAS BEEN APPLIED, AND THE EFFECTS OF THE MEASURE OF THE ACCUSED PERSON. --IN FRENCH
