Abstract
IN 1972 THE AVERAGE HOURLY WAGE WAS JUST OVER 42 CENTS. WEEKLY SALARIES OF 21 TO 32 DOLLARS WERE NOT UNUSUAL. THERE HAVE BEEN EXPERIMENTS WITH A KIND OF GROUP PIECE-WORK RATE WHICH HAS PROVEN SUPERIOR TO THE INDIVIDUAL PIECE-WORK SYSTEM IN SEVERAL RESPECTS.
