DESCRIPTION OF TESTS CONDUCTED BY THE HUNTINGTON BEACH (CA) POLICE DEPARTMENT TO DETERMINE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF ADD-ON MANIFOLDS IN REDUCING PATROL CAR FUEL CONSUMPTION WITHOUT REDUCING PERFORMANCE.
Abstract
TESTING PROCEDURES FOCUSED ON PERFORMANCE, LOW-END TORQUE, VEHICLE RESPONSE TO THROTTLE, AND FUEL CONSUMPTION IN MAIN ARTERIAL, STOP-AND-GO, AND STEADY SPEED DRIVING. THE PERFORMANCE TESTING, WHICH TOOK FIVE STAGES INCLUDING EXPERIMENTS BEFORE AND AFTER MODIFICATION, REVEALED THAT THE MANIFOLD TESTED INCREASED GAS MILEAGE BY 14 TO 29 PERCENT. FURTHER TESTING OF OTHER MODELS IS PLANNED.
