Abstract
HIGHLIGHTED IS THE OPERATION OF THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY CRIMINAL VICTIMIZATION OF THE ELDERLY RESPONSE TEAM, AN LEAA-FUNDED PILOT PROJECT. BEGUN IN NOVEMBER 1975, THIS UNIT IS MADE UP OF A POLICE OFFICER, A SOCIAL WORKER, AND AN ADMINISTRATIVE AIDE. IT PROVIDES THREE MAJOR PROGRAM CONPONENTS: AN EDUCATIONAL EFFORT DESIGNED TO REDUCE THE LEVEL OF FEAR OF CRIME AND INCREASE REPORTING OF CRIME AMONG THE '60 PLUS' AGE GROUP; A CAPACITY TO RESPOND TO ELDERLY CRIME VICTIMS WITH THE GOAL OF RESTORING THE VICTIM TO A LEVEL OF FUNCTIONING APPROXIMATING HIS/HER CAPACITY PRIOR TO VICTIMIZATION; AND RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS OF TEAM AND PROGRAM EFFECTIVENESS IN ACHIEVING THE ABOVE GOALS, APPENDED IS THE PROGRAM PROPOSAL SUBMITTED TO LEAA.
