ANNUAL REPORT ON A PROGRAM TO DIVERT JUVNEILES FROM THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM BY PROVIDING SERVICES TO PRE-DELINQUENTS AND YOUTHS WHO COME TO THE ATTENTION OF POLICE IN THE LOUISVILLE/JEFFERSON COUNTY (KY) AREA.
Abstract
THE OVERALL GOALS OF THE PROJECT IS TO DIVERT AS MANY YOUTHS AS POSSIBLE FROM THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM, THEREBY PREVENTING THEM FROM BEING LABELED DELINQUENT AND FROM BEING FORCED TO ASSOCIATE WITH DELINQUENTS AND DELINQUENT VALUES. IN ORDER TO ACCOMPLISH THIS GOAL, THE PROJECT IS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE IMMEDIATE SHORT-TERM COUNSELING SERVICES IN FAMILY CRISIS SITUATIONS, IDENTIFY AND MOBILIZE COMMUNITY RESOURCES TO SOLVE YOUTH PROBLEMS: AND PROMOTE POSITIVE PROGRAMS TO CORRECT DELINQUENCY CAUSING SITUATIONS. PART ONE OF THE PRESENT EVALUATION REPRESENTS AN ANNUAL REPORT FOR 1975 ON THE YOUTH DIVERSION PROJECT AND EACH OF ITS CENTERS WHICH HAVE BEEN REDUCED IN NUMBER FROM SIX TO FOUR. IN PART TWO, THE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT AND CENTERS AS STATED BY PROGRAM PERSONNEL ARE COMPARED TO THE PERFORMANCE OF THE PROJECT IN 1975. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
