REVIEW OF RESEARCH IN GERMANY ON THE EXTENT, NATURE, AND EFFECTS OF THIS TYPE OF OFFENSE AND AN EVALUATION OF THE BASIS AND EFFECTIVENESS OF HANDLING THIS OFFENSE IN THE GERMAN, SWISS, AND AUSTRIAN CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEMS.
Abstract
REVIEWED ARE THE RESULTS OF RESEARCH ON THE PSYCHOLOGICAL DAMAGES OF SEXUAL ABUSE TO THE CHILD, CRIME CAUSE FACTORS, AND LEVELS OF REPORTED AND UNREPORTED CRIME. THE STUDY CONCLUDES THAT THE HANDLING OF OFFENDERS BY THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM IS PREJUDICED BY POWERFUL PUBLIC ATTITUDES WHICH MAKE SCAPEGOATS OF SUCH OFFENDERS FOR CONTRADICTIONS IN HOW OUR SOCIETY DEALS WITH SEXUALITY. --IN GERMAN
