Abstract
THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE TERM 'OPERATIONS RESEARCH' IS USED IN GERMANY FOR LACK OF AN ADEQUATELY SPECIFIC GERMAN TRANSLATION. THIS ARTICLE IS INTENDED TO INTRODUCE WEST GERMAN POLICE PROFESSIONALS TO THE CONCEPT OF OPERATIONS RESEARCH. THE AUTHOR NOTES THAT HARDLY ANY LITERATURE EXISTS ON THE PRACTICAL APPLICATION OF THIS TECHNIQUE TO LAW ENFORCEMENT. --IN GERMAN
