THE HEAD OF A SWISS PRISON GIVES AN OVERVIEW OF THE MEANS AND LIMITATIONS IN HIS INSTITUTION TO CARRYING OUT THE TASK OF EDUCATING INMATES TO REENTER SOCIETY AS PROVIDED BY SWISS LAW.
Abstract
BRIEFLY DESCRIBED ARE POLICIES AND PROGRAMS REGARDING INMATE LABOR AND COMPENSATION, PSYCHIATRIC SERVICES, GROUP INTERACTION, LEISURE TIME, AMENITIES AND PRIVILEGES, AND RELEASES. TRAINING FOR CORRECTIONAL PERSONNEL IS SEEN AS BEING INCREASINGLY IMPORTANT AS IT BECOMES MORE DIFFICULT TO ATTRACT THE APPROPRIATE KINDS OF PERSONS INTO PRISON WORK. ALSO DISCUSSED IS THE WAY IN WHICH CORRECTIONAL WORKERS ARE CAUGHT IN THE MIDDLE BETWEEN DEMANDS BY THE PUBLIC FOR BOTH HARSHER AND MORE LIBERAL CONDITIONS IN THE PRISONS. --IN GERMAN
