ON THE BASIS OF HER TEN YEARS EXPERIENCE WITH THIS SANCTION, A JUVENILE COURT ATTORNEY IN BERN, SWITZERLAND EXAMINES LEGAL AND PRACTICAL ASPECTS OF SENTENCING JUVENILES TO PERFORM SOCIALLY USEFUL WORK.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR DISCUSSES THE COMPARATIVE EFFECTIVENESS OF WORK SENTENCES AND OTHER SANCTIONS PROVIDED FOR BY THE SWISS JUVENILE CODE. ANALYZED ARE THE RESULTS OF INTERVIEWS WITH JUVENILES AND EMPLOYERS REGARDING THE USE OF THIS SANCTION. ALSO DISCUSSED ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF FUTURE USE OF THIS SANCTION WITH ADULTS. ONE OF THE MAJOR ADVANTAGES OF WORK SENTENCES IS THAT THEY AVOID THE NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF INSTITUTIONALIZATION. --IN GERMAN
