REPORT ON A TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE STUDY OF THE RECORDS KEEPING SYSTEM OF THE 30-MAN POLICE DEPARTMENT IN KENNEWICK (WA), A CITY OF 16,500.
Abstract
THE CONSULTANT VISITED THE KENNEWICK POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR TWO DAYS IN AUGUST 1973. HE EXAMINED THE REPORT PROCESSING SYSTEM THEN IN EFFECT AND CONCLUDED THAT THE FILING SYSTEM LACKED COHESIVENESS AND WAS INEFFICIENT DUE TO THE EXISTENCE OF TOO MANY SEPARATE FILES, AN INVOLVED RETRIEVAL PROCESS, AND TOO MANY FILES ARRANGED APLHABETICALLY. RECOMMENDATIONS WERE MADE FOR NEW FORMS, MORE STREAMLINED PROCESSING, AND MAINTAINING FILES TO REDUCE INEFFICIENT REPORTING PROCEDURES. AN APPENDIX CONTAINS RECOMMENDED FORMS, REPORTS, FILES, AND AN IMPLEMENTATION SCHEDULE.
