Abstract
CONTAINED IN THIS REPORT ARE SELECTED PORTIONS OF OTHER DOCUMENTS SUBMITTED TO THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF LAW ENFORCEMENT AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE UNDER THE MAJOR HEADING OF 'PHASE I NATIONAL EVALUATION OF SELECTED PATROL STRATEGIES: SPECIALIZED PATROL OPERATIONS UNDER THE NATIONAL EVALUATION PROGRAM.' THIS REPORT DESCRIBES GENERAL USES AND EFFECTS OF SPECIALIZED PATROLS AND COMMON ASSUMPTIONS UNDERLYING THEIR EXISTENCE. IT IS FOCUSED ON THE FINDINGS FROM A SAMPLE OF PROJECTS SELECTED AS BEING REPRESENTATIVE OF THE STATE OF KNOWLEDGE ON SPECIALIZED PATROLS. THE ASSESSMENT OF THIS SAMPLE INCLUDES INFORMATION ON SUCCESS AND FAILURE AS RELATED TO PERFORMANCE AND EFFECTIVENESS.
