THE ADVANTAGES OF DEVLAR-29, A SYNTHETIC FABRIC USED IN LIGHTWEIGHT POLICE BODY ARMOR, ARE PRESENTED IN THIS FILM.
Abstract
THIS MATERIAL IS RESISTANT TO HANDGUN ROUNDS (UP TO ITS STATED THREAT LEVEL) AND KNIFE PUNCTURES. HOWEVER, A THIN WEAPON SUCH AS AN ICE PICK CAN PUNCTURE IT, AND BLUNT TRAUMA MAY RESULT FROM BULLETS. BLUNT TRAUMA IS, HOWEVER, THOUGHT TO BE SUPERIOR TO PENETRATION BY A BULLET. THIS FILM MIGHT BE USEFUL TO POLICE DEPARTMENTS INTERESTED IN USING LIGHTWEIGHT BODY ARMOR.
