ANNUAL REPORT LOOKS AT CRIME STATISTICS, POLICE STRENGTHS, AND PROGRESS IN COMBATING CRIME, AND ENSURING THE PUBLIC ORDER.
Abstract
ALTHOUGH THERE WAS A SLOWDOWN IN THE RATE OF INCREASE, OVER ALL, CRIME IN 1975 MOVED UP 7 PERCENT FROM THE FIGURE FOR 1974. AUTO THEFT WAS UP BY 10 PERCENT AND SHOPLIFTING WAS UP BY 6 PERCENT. VIOLENCE AGAINST THE INDIVIDUAL ROSE, BUT THERE WAS A SLIGHT DROP-OFF IN REPORTED SEXUAL OFFENSES. THIS REPORT ON THE COMBINED FORCES OF ENGLAND, WALES, AND THE CITY OF LONDON ALSO NOTES THAT CASUALTIES FROM TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS DECREASED FOR THE THIRD SUCCESSIVE YEAR. THE CHIEF INSPECTOR REPORTS THAT POLICE TRAINING SESSIONS CONTINUED TO OPERATE SUCCESSFULLY, AND THERE WAS AN INCREASE IN THE CASELOADS OF POLICE LABS. OTHER FINDINGS ARE INCLUDED ON COMMUNITY RELATIONS, COMMENDATIONS, AND COMPLAINTS. APPENDICES GIVE BREAKDOWNS ON POLICE SCHOLARSHIPS, NEW APPOINTMENTS, AND HEADQUARTERS EXPANSIONS....BS
