REPORT DESCRIBES THE PROGRESS AND SHORTCOMINGS OF THREE EXPERIMENTAL PROGRAMS, AND EXPLAINS WHAT HAS BEEN LEARNED THROUGH THEM.
Abstract
THE THREE PROGRAMS WERE THE ADULT FORENSIC SERVICES OF COLORADO SPRINGS, THE WALDEN COMMUNITY TREATMENT CENTER IN DENVER, AND THE WELD MENTAL HEALTH CENTER IN GREELEY. SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION BY PARTICIPANTS IN ALL THREE PROGRAMS WAS APPROXIMATELY 50 PERCENT. THIS FIGURE, THE REPORT SAYS, IS CONSIDERABLY LESS THAN THAT OF PARTICIPANTS COMPLETING COMPARABLE WORK RELEASE PROGRAMS. POOR SCREENING PROCEDURES AND LACK OF PROCEDURAL GUIDELINES MAY HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE LACK OF SUCCESS. SOME OF THE INNOVATIONS TAKEN IN THE PROGRAMS INCLUDED GREATER INVOLVEMENT OF THE PAROLE OFFICER, AND INTENSIVE INVOLVEMENT THERAPY....BS
