ARTICLE COMMENTS ON EFFECT THAT POLICE RESERVISTS HAVE HAD ON PUBLIC SAFETY IN DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA.
Abstract
DURING 1975-76, THERE WERE 84 RESERVISTS IN THE DADE COUNTY PUBLIC SAFETY DEPARTMENT. THESE RESERVISTS PERFORMED A VARIETY OF FUNCTIONS, CHIEFLY AUGMENTING POLICE PATROLS. THEY WORK AT LEAST 16 HOURS EACH MONTH AND RECEIVE A MINIMUM OF 4 HOURS A MONTH TRAINING AFTER COMPLETING 340 HOURS OF INITIAL TRAINING. THE RESERVISTS HAVE FULL POLICE AUTHORITY. THE TURNOVER RATE AMONG THEM HAS BEEN LOW, AND MANY BECOME FULLTIME POLICE OFFICERS. THE RESERVISTS PLAY AN EFFECTIVE ROLE IN STRENGTHENING POLICE-COMMUNITY RELATIONS, AND HAVE HELPED IN THE FIGHT AGAINST CRIME....BS
