DEVELOPMENT OF MATHEMATICAL FORMULAS TO PREDICT FEDERAL DISTRICT COURT CASELOADS BY USING SOCIAL, POLITICAL, DEMOGRAPHIC, AND ECONOMIC INDICATORS.
Abstract
THE DATA FOR THE PROJECT CONSISTS OF CASE FILING VOLUMES IN 42 CATEGORIES OF CIVIL AND CRIMINAL CASES IN FEDERAL DISTRICT COURTS BETWEEN 1950 AND 1970. DATA WERE EXTRACTED FROM THE ANNUAL REPORTS OF THE DIRECTOR OF THE ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE OF THE US COURTS. INDICATOR-BASED REGRESSION MODELS, MEASURING CIVIL MATTERS IN CASE UNITS AND CRIMINAL MATTERS IN DEFENDANT UNITS, WERE CONSTRUCTED AND TESTED. THE RESULTS INDICATE THAT VIABLE DISTRICT COURT FORECASTS CAN BE ACHIEVE THROUGH MODIFICATION OF MODELS BASED ON PAST CASELOADS WITH ESTIMATIONS OF THE FUTURE....EB
