REPORT EXAMINES IMPROVEMENTS THAT HAVE BEEN MADE TO JERSEY CITY MUNICIPAL COURT OPERATIONS AND MAKES FURTHER SUGGESTIONS.
Abstract
A SERIES OF FUNDAMENTAL PHYSICAL IMPROVEMENTS TO THE COURT OPERATION WERE SUGGESTED BY JUDGE MILTON FRIEDMAN IN NOVEMBER 1973 (NCJ-39631). THIS REPORT EXPLAINS THAT MANY OF THOSE RECOMMENDATIONS THAT DID NOT REQUIRE CAPITAL OUTLAY WERE ADOPTED. OTHERS ARE PROPOSED AS FUTURE IMPROVEMENTS. THESE INCLUDE A COMPLAINTS ROOM ADJACENT TO THE CLERKS' ROOM WITH SPACE FOR THREE DESKS, ONE JUDGE'S ROOM ENTERING EACH COURTROOM DIRECTLY AND WITH IN-SITE TOILET, AND EQUAL SIZED COURTROOMS WITH FIXED SEATING FOR 64 AND 68 PEOPLE. JUDICIAL AND PROCEDURAL IMPROVEMENTS, PERSONNEL PROJECTIONS, AND SPACE NEEDS ARE FACTORS THAT SHOULD GOVERN FACILITIES REMODELING IN THE FUTURE....BS
