Abstract
FIRST, THE DEMOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICS OF PIMA COUNTY AND ITS CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM ARE PRESENTED. THEN, THE VICTIM-WITNESS ADVOCATE PROGRAM IS DESCRIBED, INCLUDING HOW THE PROGRAM WAS STARTED AND WHAT SERVICES IT PROVIDES. IN THE MAIN SECTION OF THE REPORT, AN EVALUATIO OF THE PROGRAM IS OFFERED IN RELATION TO ESTABLISHED OBJECTIVES. THIS IS FOLLOWED BY A DISCUSSION OF COST AND BENEFITS AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FUTURE OPERATIONS. THE REPORT CONCLUDES WITH AN OVERALL ASSESSMENT OF THE FIRST YEAR'S OPERATIONS. RECOMMENDATIONS RELATING TO INCREASED EFFICIENCY OF THE PROGRAM ARE MADE AND INCLUDE GREATER USE OF VOLUNTEERS AND INCREASED SERVICES TO WITNESSES IN THE COUNTY ATTORNEY'S OFFICE. OTHER SUGGESTIONS ALSO WERE MADE FOR INCREASING FOLLOW-UP ON SOCIAL SERVICE REFERRALS AND FOR PROVIDING FEEDBACK TO POLICE OFFICERS. NUMEROUS ILLUSTRATIONS AND STATISTICAL TABLES DOCUMENT THE TEXT.
