Abstract
THE DOCUMENT BEGINS BY DEFINING INFORMATION REQUIREMENTS TO DEVELOP AN EXTENSIVE CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM ON A SCIENTIFIC BASIS. DELINEATED ARE THE DECISION POINTS IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM AT WHICH OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE RELEVANT TO CLASSIFICATION. ANOTHER SECTION OF THE DOCUMENT SPECIFIES WHICH TESTS ARE TO BE GIVEN AND WHAT DATA ARE TO BE GATHERED FOR MAKING DECISIONS AT SPECIFIC POINTS. ALSO DISCUSSED ARE OUTCOME DATA REQUIRED FOR DECISIONMAKING, AND FINALLY, PROCEDURES NECESSARY FOR DESIGNING A STUDY TO PROVIDE A SCIENTIFIC BASIS FOR THE PREDICTION OF RECIDIVISM, AS WELL AS THE RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH THE OFFENDER IN THE COMMUNITY.
