A 1977 EXTRACT FROM 'CRIMINAL JUSTICE IN THE THOMAS JEFFERSON PLANNING DISTRICT: 1977-1978,' ANALYZING STATISTICS ON THE AGES OF THIS VIRGINIA DISTRICT'S VICTIMS.
Abstract
THE EXTRACT IS BASED ON A STUDY PREPARED FOR THE CHARLOTTESVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT ON THE AGES OF VICTIMS IN REPORTED CASES FROM SEPTEMBER 1974 TO SEPTEMBER 1975. USING STATISTICS FROM THE STUDY, THE REPORT FINDS THAT THERE IS A SPECIAL VICTIMIZATION PROBLEM CONCERNING MIDDLE-AGED MEN, ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN DRINKING HEAVILY. THE ELDERLY, HOWEVER, DID NOT APPEAR TO BE VICTIMIZED DISPROPORTIONATELY; THEREFORE, NO SPECIAL PREVENTIVE PLANNING IS RECOMMENDED. THE REPORT CAUTIONED THAT THE STATISTICS MAY BE DECEIVING IN THAT THE ELDERLY MAY BE HESITANT IN REPORTING VICTIMIZATION. TABLES INCLUDE THE ANALYZED STATISTICS....TWH
