Abstract
ALTHOUGH THERE ARE DIFFERENCES IN HUMAN AND NONHUMAN VIOLENCE, THERE ARE ALSO SIMILARITIES. INSTANCES OF GROUP FIGHTING HAVE BEEN NOTED IN ANIMAL SOCIETY, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE SOCIAL ORGANIZATION HAS BEEN DISRUPTED. HOWEVER, THE POTENTIAL FOR AND EXTREME USE OF FORCE IN HUMAN MILITARY OR SIMILAR ACTIVITIES HAS NEVER BEEN DETECTED IN ANIMAL SOCIETIES. THE AUTHOR CONCLUDES THAT POLICIES GEARED TOWARD REDUCING THE PROBLEM OF VIOLENCE IN HUMAN SOCIETY SHOULD NOT BE SEPARATED FROM A DESIRE TO SOLVE SOCIAL PROBLEMS IN GENERAL....BS
