A DESCRIPTION OF THE FUNCTIONS AND BENEFITS OF A MODEST COMPUTERIZED SYSTEM DEVELOPED FOR THE ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS TO TRACK ITS JUVENILE WARDS.
Abstract
THE JUVENILE MODULE IS A LOW COST COMPUTERIZED SYSTEM DESIGNED TO REPORT SPECIFIC TYPES OF INFORMATION TO ASSIST ARIZONA CORRECTIONAL STAFF IN PERFORMING THEIR JOBS. THE SYSTEM WAS DEVELOPED DURING A NINE-MONTH PERIOD BY THE SYSTEMS AND PROGRAMMING STAFF OF THE STATE DATA PROCESSING CENTER. CURRENT OPERATING COSTS FOR THE SYSTEM ARE VERY MODEST. THE DATA BASE INCLUDES IDENTIFICATION, BACKGROUND INFORMATION, PROGRAM REPORTS, AND OFFENDER-BASED TRACKING FOR ALL JUVENILES UNDER THE JURISDICTION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS. IN ADDITION, AN HISTORICAL DATA BASE COVERING ALL JUVENILES ACTIVE IN THE DEPARTMENT SINCE 1970 IS INCLUDED. THE SPECIFIC BENEFITS THAT HAVE RESULTED FROM THIS COMPUTERIZATION ARE DETAILED. THESE BENEFITS APPEAR IN THE AREAS OF STANDARDIZED CASE REPORTING, POPULATION ACCOUNTING, ASSESSMENT BILLINGS, CASE MANAGEMENT, HISTORICAL RESEARCH, STATISTICAL REPORTING, AND PRODUCTION OF OPTIONAL REPORTS. SECURITY AND PRIVACY OF THE SYSTEM ARE BRIEFLY DISCUSSED. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)....DMC
