BRITISH SPEAKER DISCUSSES THE CONCEPT BEHIND POLICE WORK IN BRITISH SOCIETY AND HOW IT DIFFERS FROM AMERICA.
Abstract
POLICE AND POLICE CHIEFS ARE THE AGENTS OF NO ONE IN BRITAIN EXCEPT THE CROWN, ACCORDING TO THE SPEAKER. THIS IS DIFFERENT FROM POLICE IN THE STATES, HE BELIEVES. THE SPEAKER POINTS OUT THE NEED TO HAVE A STRONG POLICE FORCE; THE FORCE IN ENGLAND IS 1 POLICE OFFICER FOR EVERY 450 PEOPLE. THE POLICE FORCE HAS BEEN ORGANIZED IN ENGLAND FOR 150 YEARS, AND THIS HAS HELPED GENERATE SUPPORT FOR THEM. ONE POLL SAID THAT 83 PERCENT OF THE BRITISH PUBLIC REGARDED THE POLICE AS FAIR AND DOING A GOOD JOB. POLICE IN THE STATES MUST BECOME MORE BENEVOLENT LIKE BRITISH POLICE, THE SPEAKER CONCLUDES.
