THIS ARTICLE ANALYZES CRIME STATISTICS AND RATES AND CONCLUDES THAT BUSINESSES ARE THE BIGGEST VICTIMS OF PROPERTY CRIME.
Abstract
THE BUSINESSMAN IS ALMOST SIX TIMES AS LIKELY TO SUFFER A ROBBERY OF OR WITHIN HIS ESTABLISHMENT THAN AN ORDINARY CITIZEN IS ON THE PUBLIC STREETS. FURTHER, A 1976 REPORT BY THE STANFORD RESEARCH INSTITUTE FOUND THAT 80 PERCENT OF THE TOTAL LOSSES OF SOME TYPES OF BUSINESSES (BANKING AND MOTOR FREIGHT, FOR EXAMPLE) ARE INTERNAL, RESULTING FROM EMPLOYEE THEFT.
