ARTICLE DISCUSSES HOW CHEMICAL ANALYSIS OF POLYESTER FIBERS CAN HELP IN CRIME SOLUTION IN CERTAIN CASES.
Abstract
THE FORENSIC IDENTIFICATION OF POLYESTER FIBERS IS DISCUSSED. INFRARED SPECTROSCOPY ALLOWED DIFFERENTIATION OF VARIOUS MODIFIED TYPES. MELTING POINTS WERE ALSO RECORDED. ANALYSTS SHOULD BE AWARE OF POSSIBLE CONFUSION ARISING OVER THE IDENTITY OF FIBERS WHICH CANNOT BE CONCLUSIVELY DIFFERENTIATED BY THIS METHOD. THE NEED FOR FURTHER STUDY, POSSIBLY BY NUCLEAR MAGNETIC RESONANCE IS INDICATED.(AUTHOR ABSTRACT)....BDS
