AUDIOVISUAL/CASSETTE PRODUCTION WAS DESIGNED AS A TRAINING AID AND COVERS BOTH FIXED AND MOVING SURVEILLANCE.
Abstract
THE FIRST SECTION DEALS WITH OBJECTIVES, PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATIONS, THE QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED BY OFFICERS FOR SPECIFIC ASSIGNMENTS, EQUIPMENT, AND THE IMPORTANCE OF THOROUGH BRIEFING. THIS IS FOLLOWED BY A DISCUSSION OF THE TRAPS SET BY SUBJECTS TO DETECT AND EVADE FOLLOWERS, AND THE TECHNIQUES THAT OFFICERS CAN USE TO AVOID THEM. SUGGESTIONS ON WAYS TO GUARD AGAINST CONFEDERATES AND AMBUSHES ARE INCLUDED. STANDARD PROCEDURES FOR FOOT AND VEHICULAR SURVEILLANCE ARE EXPLAINED NEXT. THE ABC METHOD, LEAPFROGGING, JUMPERS, AND THE PERIMETER-BOX TECHNIQUE ALL RECEIVE DETAILED TREATMENT. GUIDELINES ARE OFFERED FOR HANDLING COMMON PROBLEMS. THESE INCLUDE THOSE ENCOUNTERED WHEN A SUBJECT BOARDS A BUS OR ENTERS A RESTAURANT, A HOTEL, OR A THEATER. FIXED SURVEILLANCE IS ALSO COVERED, WITH SPECIAL EMPHASIS GIVEN TO THE NEED FOR MAKING CAREFUL PREPARATIONS AND CHOOSING A SUITABLE SITE FOR THE OPERATIONS. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)...KAP
