THE PROJECT WAS ORIGINALLY DESIGNED TO CREATE A FOUR-BED FACILITY WHICH WOULD OFFER THE JUVENILE OFFENDER WHO HAS BENEFITTED LITTLE FROM SUPERVISED PROBATION, A STRUCTURED SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT FOR A SHORT-TERM DURATION.
Abstract
THE FAMILY-ORIENTED GROUP HOME PROPOSED IN THE GRANT APPLICATION NEVER MATERIALIZED, HOWEVER. INSTEAD, THE FOUR JUVENILES WERE PLACED IN FOSTER HOMES AT A COST OF $300 PER CHILD PER MONTH - ALTHOUGH A LOT OF SUPPORTIVE FAMILY COUNSELING WAS PROVIDED BY THE STAFF OF THE BRADDOCK JUVENILE PROBATION HOUSE. OF THE FOUR YOUTHS PLACED, ONE WAS STILL IN THE HOME AND DOING QUITE WELL AT THE TIME OF THE EVALUATION; TWO BOYS PLACED IN ANOTHER HOME HAD TO BE REMOVED DUE TO SOME PERSONAL PROBLEMS OF THE FOSTER PARENTS; AND ONE YOUTH HAD BEEN ARRESTED AND COMMITTED TO THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS. OVERALL, THE PROJECT WAS RATED AS 'AVERAGE' (A 'FOUR' OUT OF A POSSIBLE 'SEVEN' RATING) IN TERMS OF ITS ACHIEVEMENT OF STATE, AGENCY, AND PROJECT GOALS; DIRECTION AND COORDINATION; AND DELIBERABLE PRODUCTS.
