THIS PROGRAM WAS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE CRIMINAL JUSTICE STUDENTS WITH AN OPPORTUNITY TO GAIN PRACTICAL FIELD EXPERIENCE IN LAW ENFORCEMENT PRIOR TO ENTERING ACTUAL SERVICE IN AN AGENCY.
Abstract
BEGUN IN JANUARY 1976, THE PROGRAM WHICH ACCOMMODATES FIVE INTERNS AT A TIME, PROVIDES EXPERIENCE IN FIVE AREAS OF CAMPUS SECURITY OPERATIONS - TRAFFIC, PUBLIC RELATIONS, RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT, SECURITY, AND CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION. DATA COLLECTED AND COMPILED IN RELATION TO THE PROGRAM'S STATED GOALS AND ANTICIPATED IMPACTS INDICATE THAT THE INTERNS FEEL THAT THEIR WORK EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN VALUABLE AND THAT THEIR JOB POTENTIAL HAS BEEN INCREASED BY THE PROGRAM. INTERVIEWS WITH EMPLOYERS OF EX-INTERNS, SUPERVISORS, AND CAMPUS SECURITY OFFICERS GENERALLY SUPPORTED THESE VIEWS. THE POSSIBLE COMBINATION OF INTERN UNITS AND THE CONTINUATION OF EFFORTS TO KEEP REGULAR OFFICERS INVOLVED AND INTERESTED IN THE PROGRAM ARE RECOMMENDED. TABULAR DATA IS INCLUDED....ELW
