THIS REPORT PRESENTS THE RESULTS OF A NATIONAL SURVEY OF PROSECUTION AND CIVIL ATTORNEY AGENCIES CONDUCTED IN 1976 BY THE U.S. CENSUS BUREAU FOR THE LAW ENFORCEMENT ASSISTANCE ADMINISTRATION.
Abstract
THE PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE SURVEY WAS TO OBTAIN DATA ON THE ORGANIZATION, JURISDICTION, FUNDING, AND STAFFING OF THESE AGENCIES TO UPDATE THE DIRECTORY OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE AGENCIES ('CRIMINAL JUSTICE AGENCIES IN REGION 1-10'; 10 VOLUMES, NCJ-17930-38 AND NCJ-15151). THE REPORT CONTAINS TABLES SHOWING THE NUMBER OF PROSECUTION AND CIVIL ATTORNEY AGENCIES BY FUNCTION, BY EMPLOYMENT SIZE, BY LEVEL OF GOVERNMENT, BY TYPE OF CASES PROSECUTED, BY SOURCE OF FUNDING, AND BY METHOD OF ATTORNEY COMPENSATION. OTHER TABLES PRESENT THE NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES BY TYPE. MOST TABLES DISPLAY DATA FOR INDIVIDUAL STATES AND THE AGGREGATE OF COUNTY AND MUNICIPAL AGENCIES WITHIN THE STATE. THE REPORT ALSO CONTAINS A PROFILE OF THE PROSECUTION AND CIVIL ATTORNEY SYSTEM IN EACH STATE, DESCRIBING EACH AGENCY'S LEGAL AUTHORIZATION, ORGANIZATION, LEGAL JURISDICTION, PERSONNEL, AND FUNDING SOURCE (FEDERAL, STATE, OR LOCAL). DEFINITIONS OF THE TERMS USED IN THE REPORT AND A COPY OF THE DATA COLLECTION QUESTIONNAIRE ARE ALSO INCLUDED. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)...ELW
